[Breeds] Wanting a Boxer, other breeds to consider?

Hello there! My boyfriend and I are planning to get a dog next summer, potentially a puppy. I have a shelter special (prob a chiweenie mix, she's small/medium at about 16 lbs) I adopted last July and we are looking into a "brother" for her.Since I got to "pick" our current dog, Sunny (who, let's be real, is more just my dog than our dog), we're going for what my SO wants for our next dog.He LOVES Boxers. He thinks they are just super cute, his grandparents had them while he was growing up and he has always loved them. I personally don't have a lot of experience with boxers, but from what I've read, they seem to be great, goofy, friendly, loyal dogs. I especially like that they are good for families and can be a great "guardian" at times (my dog is an alert dog and will bark at strange noises/people sometimes, but she's not super scary).I'm really hesitant though, because I've heard they can be a challenge for first-time dog owners, especially as puppies. I had a family dog growing up, my SO only had extended famliy (ie, grandparents) with dogs, and I adopted my current fur child when she was about a year old, so absolutely zero puppy experience. My SO is also currently in his medical residency. He doesn't have much time now, but by the time we get this dog he will be in his final year and have a more relaxed schedule where he is not on call/ at the hospital constantly. I'll also obviously be at home to help out with the dog while he's working but the goal here is for it to be sort of "his" dog. Because of this, I'm also worried about the size of a Boxer if I have to take care of the dog/handle him on my own as I'm a petite woman and have heard that Boxers are just "too much dog" at times. Why exactly are Boxers so difficult for first time dog owners? The energy requirement? Are there any alternative breeds to Boxers that may be better suited to our situation? His grandparents have Boston terriers now and I think bostons are adorable, but my SO wants a slightly bigger dog than that -- somewhere around 50-70 lbs. Thanks in advance! via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2sghlb9
