Hi there, I'm a dog lover who is soon to be adopting her first dog! Looking for a bit of information about which dog to get so if anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated! I'm a 23F living in my family home (mother, father and 20yo sister) in Ireland. Thanks!Introduction1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?Yes, but I walk a lot of neighbourhood dogs and mind my relatives' dogs when they go away, so I spend a lot of time with dogs at the minute.2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?Rescue preferably3) Describe your ideal dog.Friendly and independent. Okay to be left alone. Likes to spend time with me and can be trusted around the house. Comfortable with new people4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?I just love dogs so would love any type of dog! But as it will be a house dog, I'd be looking for medium sized or smaller.5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?Basic commands, able to control themselves around other dogs and new people.Care Commitments6) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?At least two hours7) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?About an hour. Long walks around my local area and maybe some hills. No dog park, but areas in which there will be other dogs8) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?I'd do it myself but I'll need some instructions!Personal Preferences9) What size dog are you looking for?Medium or smaller10) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?Not really a slobber fan and would like to keep barking to a minimum11) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?A bonus but not super important.Dog Personality and Behavior12) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?Snuggly but one that is also content to be at home by themselves.13) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?Okay to do it's own thing14) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard?
