[Discussion] / [Help] Mental stimulation for an easily bored dog?

Hi everyone! First post in this sub, so I hope it's done/tagged correctly. In short, I'm looking for toys or puzzles or other things to keep my stupid-smart dog entertained when we can't be doing one-on-one activities with her.For more background/context: she's technically my parents' dog, and I live with them and take care of her when I'm home from college on breaks. While I'm home, I try to take her for daily or near-daily walks, and daily/near-daily training sessions. Neither of those things happen when I'm away (I've spoken with my parents about this, but they just flatly refuse to pick up the slack. I don't know why and I can't change their minds), but frankly even when they are happening she still gets bored very often and quickly. She has one of the Kong "cookie balls" that she gets once or twice a day, but they don't last her very long at all! She's figured out how to squeeze the ball against the couch with her nose so the treats fall out the bottom. She has a traditional Kong we used to fill with frozen peanut butter, but most of our house is carpeted, so it's not a very practical activity unless we want to lock her in the bathroom or something. She has toys, but has almost 0 interest in playing with anything she can't rip to shreds, and it gets a little too expensive to keep replacing them. She's very food motivated but otherwise pretty lazy, so treat puzzles or games we can set and leave for her would be ideal, but any suggestions are fantastic and greatly appreciated!! Thank you!! via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rm6Kxz
