[Breeds]


Introduction1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?No, I have had a few dogs throughout my life. The last dog I had was when I was living with my sister in university where we got a cocker spaniel.2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?Not particularly, likely go through a breeder3) Describe your ideal dog.Looking for an medium-large independent dog. I am looking for one with medium energy. I love German Shephards but I will be living in a 2 bedroom apartment so I won't be able to give them the space that they would need.4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?Like I said above, something like a German Shephard. Just need something a little lower energy and lower maintenance.5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?The basics, off leash would be nice but not necessary.Care Commitments6) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?Probably a few hours a day. Will be in class 4 days a week for the most of the day. Willing to give it as much attention as needed. I will have a full month to devote to it before school starts up.7) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?Same as above. I would like to take it for runs/walks in the park.8) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?Willing to do as neededPersonal Preferences9) What size dog are you looking for?Medium-Large. No smaller than a Cocker Spaniel10) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?Average for all of the above. Would like minimal barking especially as I will be living in a low-rise with 8 other tenants in the building.11) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?Not very, would be niceDog Personality and Behavior12) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?Somewhere in the middle. There might be times where it has to be alone for 8hrs so I don't want to have to worry about it destroying something.13) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?Same as the last one. Somewhere in the middle.14) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?I am fine with a couple of barks but not looking for something overly protective.15) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?It is manageable but would prefer a more passive dog.16) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?Don't want it to be overly aggressive to strangers.Lifestyle17) How often and how long will the dog be left alone?About 8hrs a day during the week18) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog?It will just be me.19) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets?
