I'm asking this because right now my dog is currently on bedrest while on recovery from her heartworms injections. I adopted her HW+ and knew of the procedures before I got her, thankfully the shelter is covering the treatment! So right now she in on bedrest for the rest of the month.Anyways the vet there stressed and recommended for the dog to be crated as much as possible so as to keep their heartrate low for this recovery period. The past few days I was quite busy though so even when I was in the apartment I was keeping her in her crate. I would let her out, pet her a bit, take her out to go potty, give her food/water and then put her back in the crate, so she was not in there for long periods of continuous time. She's in her crate for quite a while but I do break it up when I can with small walks to go potty outside.I was thinking she might be miserable being in the crate almost all the time, but surprisingly she's doing quite well! Prior to this if I kept her in the crate most of the day she would whine quite a bit, I've noticed though she's been pretty happy and her whining has decreased a ton as well. Even when meeting people she's all on board and happy, but she's less hyped about it. Prior when meeting a friend who entered my apartment she would be running around them, jumping on them, just typical dog mannerisms. Yesterday a friend came over and she was definitely excited to meet him (ears up, mouth open, tail wagging) but when she came out she didn't jump once or get overly excited! She sniffed him quite a bit, leaned on him, wanted his attention but her behavior was great.I'm not complaining at all, its great so far but I'm surprised that with me crating her more than before her behavior has noticeably improved! Once she's off bedrest though I will let her hang out with me in the apartment more again. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2qTQFQw
