[DISCUSSION] How often do you give your dog flea/tick preventative?

I recently adopted a puppy, and have seen conflicting reports online about how often to give a dog flea/tick preventative. From what I understand, the standard is once a month, but I'm curious how often other dog owners actually apply it.Also, I apologize if I used the wrong tag!
