[Help][Discussion] Conflicting info about whether or not to shave my dog for the summer

I have a Bernese Mtn Dog/Australian Shepherd mix. He is very big and fluffy and black. He is old and not very active, and spends most of his time indoors. We live in Phoenix, AZ where it can reach 120F and frequently hovers between 110-115. The air is very dry with little wind.On this sub I hear conflicting info on this issue. In one camp, I hear you shouldn't shave your fluffy dog because the hairs help to keep it cool after it blows its undercoat (I've read about this, but still don't quite understand how this is supposed to work). On the other side of the issue, I can definitely understand shaving the dog to help keep it cool.We haven't shaved him yet this year because we haven't had time. But should we at all? via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2qJGiut
