[Discussion] Rescue Dog or Puppy?

I've been wanting my own dog for almost two years now, and initially I had my heart set on a Shiba Inu. Where I am, Shibas are pretty difficult to get a hold of, so after submitting requests to all nearby, and not-so-nearby, breeders, I decided to look for a rescue dog.I continued to keep an eye out for any available puppies that would randomly pop up, but with how much a Shiba costs, I decided that it wasn't worth it unless they were the one.So, after checking out all the listings for dogs available to rescue the past few of months, I found a Border Collie cross that I figured I might as well meet in person. He has plenty of issues (very wary of other dogs and borderline schizophrenic when it comes to storms), but I decided that he would be worth the effort and I might as well give him a go.Now, after making that decision and being so close to taking him home, I've received an email from a nearby Shiba breeder offering one of their puppies. The puppy in question wasn't exactly what I wanted, but the breeder mentioned that, provided they have the colour and gender I specified, that I would likely get the puppy I wanted sometime next year.I'd feel awful turning down the Collie, but I'm not even sure if I'll be able to provide him what he needs.
