[Help] Dog has been in ICU for 48hrs with liver damage from possible heat stroke. Requesting advice and stories of pets who needed just that little bit longer to recover

[Preface]Sorry so long, I really need some opinions/stories/information. I can give you info on her background but just know this wasn't neglect. I prepared for our hike beforehand and my other dog was 100% fine and same-ish breed.[Questions 1/2]Is there a chance she will recover? Is there something that could be done differently at a better animal hospital? Right now she's just in the one stainless steel ICU cage in the middle of the working room, presumably so they can monitor, but it's a little bit small if you ask me (she's 80lbs).[Pics]- http://ift.tt/2sPpfbf http://ift.tt/2rRqMjS dog, Eisa (eye-sa), went hiking with me and my other dog this weekend. It was only 3 miles, brought water and bowls for the 1/2 way point, let her cool down in a creek, other dog was fine, but she needed to be carried about a quarter mile at the end.Got her in AC right after, but put her in a bath of cool water about an hour later when I realized she wasn't getting better and took her to an emergency vet. She got subcutaneous fluids and went home with me as the emergency vet is 3x as expensive.[Sunday]First thing the next morning I was able to get her to walk a bit and drink water but I took her to an office with a 24hr ICU and they checked her in and ran bloodwork and set her up on an IV with just saline once an hour and also pain killers. I visited her later that night and went home.[Monday]Bloodwork came back:- Liver AST - Normal: 23-65 - Hers: 1080- Liver ALT - Normal: 21-102 - Hers: 969- Kidney VUN - Normal: 10-28 - Hers: 69- Creatinine - Normal: 0.5-1.5 - Hers: 5.3Also, a test came back indicating it was possible she might have Leptospirosis so they're testing for that too, but takes 3 days.I was able to get some liquid funds and they started adding Dextrose, B vitamins, = and AB's to her IV that morning. She's also on oxygen even though vitals are normal. At noon they started giving her a steroid, but 2hrs later she was moaning and would no longer accept water. Not sure if it's related to the steroids or if it's just the natural progression of her illness. I tried researching this but I'm a layperson and wanted to trust the vet. It's called dexamethasone I believe. That evening I brought my mother, gf, and other dog over to visit in a private room. I was able to get her to drink water by syringing it in the back of her mouth little bits at a time. She doesn't really like to move but she seems alert and responds to us talking about things like food. I think she's very hungry, poor girl :([Today]All vitals still normal (oxygen, heartbeat, temperature) but she's still heavily panting and doesn't want to walk. I don't know if she's drinking water willingly yet. Still on oxygen just because I guess. She's getting an ultrasound of liver kidneys and heart (probably right now) but I don't know the results of that yet. I plan to feed her a small amount with some prescription wet food as a slush in the syringe tiny bit by bit over a period of of maybe an hour. If she responds well I will ask them to do that for her so she can start getting some different nutrients that will help her recover IMO.[Now]Waiting on results. Trying to keep it together. I want to give her a fighting chance but after low-key getting their opinions a lot of them don't really have a lot of faith even though her vitals seem to be normal and she's clearly not comatose.[Questions 2/2]What should I do? I'm obv going to wait until I get the ultrasound results and visit her myself after work. Does anyone have any stories of liver damage and needing longer to heal or any long dog recovery stories that might give me hope? I don't want to euthanize her without giving her a chance. She's such a perfect dog, my other dog is beautiful but a prick.Any comments are welcome. I need some support, there's no one to talk to with any real advice in my family as they just say to pray, or say you should put her down bc they don't think it's worth the money. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rJ0Vs4
