[Help] Foster to Adopt Dog - Training Issues, Chases Cat - Not sure what to do next

First time poster so be gentle. My husband and I are fostering a one-two year old 45 pound male pit mix who was recently neutered and HW positive (going through treatment soon, finishing up recovery from FSO surgery). We might adopt, but we are not sure now. My husband and I want a second dog to our current five year old 80 pound female lab mix, who was recused from the local animal shelter four years ago. Lab needs her space, but we have several family/friends dogs that she gets along with just fine.Pit mix is so sweet, loves people, and cuddles. Learning sit and down! But he wants to play...HARD. If he sees our cat, we cannot break his focus with any type of treats and could care less about the spray water bottle. Lab needs time to warm up to playing, and again, he gets so wound up and we cannot break his focus, so we have had to break up some bad interactions. The two dogs do try to fight (mostly just growling) over our attention. Barrier frustration with the neighbor dogs due to play. We have to physically remove him from the backyard.I do not mind putting in the training, or hiring a trainer to come in to help. He does amazing in his crate, house broken, is learning, but I am not sure I/we feel a connection like "this is the dog for us!" I was honest with the foster coordinator and she says whatever we need or want to do next, it is up to us. At least we are giving him a good home now.Any advice on adopting, training or in general? I am so conflicted and I do not know what to do next. Just taking it day by day and giving him a good home during treatment. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rZYuV0
