I have a 1 year old male Miniature Dachshund named Cosmo, I recently moved states and was separated from him for 3 months until I found a place for us to live. In that time, he was being cared for by my grandparents. When I picked him up from the airport, I noticed that he was licking his anus a lot, something he didn't do prior to my move. I immediately suspected a problem with his anal glands, here are his symptoms-Licking his anus and surrounds oftenAnus is often moistVery pungent smell comes from his anus which I can smell from far awaybrown, oily dischargeBad breathNow obviously I took him straight to the vet to have his anal glands checked, she did the usual thing- looked inside and out, inserted fingers to express the glands but apparently the glands were fine and didn't need to be expressed... I left and thought, Maybe if I gave him a good bath and fed him more raw meaty bones, it'll help bulk his poo to better express his glands, however there has been no improvement in any of his symptoms.I'm ready to take him to a different vet to get it checked again... but surely it's not hard to miss an anal gland problem? I just want some of your opinions on this, in case I come back from the vet without a conclusion again, please feel free to ask any questions to help get a better idea of the situation :) via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2qWYTHI
