Adopted our dog about a year and a half ago. She was tested for heartworms at the time and the test came back negative. When we adopted her we made sure to start her on tri heart for heartworm prevention as well as all of the other recommended vaccines and meds.Fast forward through a year of owning a high energy, beautiful, sweet, amazing, trying asshole of a dog. We took her to the vet this weekend for her lyme shot and to order more heartworm meds. Vet says she's positive on their heartworm test. They take blood samples to send to a secondary lab to confirm diagnosis. And its confirmed. She has not shown any signs of the normal symptoms but the test is positive and she will need an xray soon to know the extent of the infection. My biggest fear at this point, during treatment she is supposed to stay calm and receive little to no exercise. What am I going to do with this crazy energetic dog for 3-4 months of little to no exercise. I usually play fetch with her for 45 min to an hour a day along with multiple 30-45 min walks a day. Even after that she generally has enough energy for some training and tugging inside. I cannot imagine what the next months will be like. Hopefully it rains all summer since the only days she is calm inside are rainy days.Poor bubs won't be able to enjoy the beach...we love the beach.Anyway sorry for the vent book above. Would really like to hear from anyone who has gone through the treatment process and how they handled it. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2ry9zvi
