[Help] Second Opinion?

Hello, all. Forgive me if my words don't make sense - I've been up since 3 AM helping my dogs through her "panic attacks".I've recently taken my dog to the vet as I've been having concerns about these fits she's been having. I've had a feeling they were seizures due to the nature of the fits. She's conscious, aware of her surroundings, but lacks control over some parts of her body. An example is that one or both of her front legs will raise and hold close to her chest. She will look around, eyes wide.We went to the vet this last Saturday to check on these. The vet basically attributed these to "panic attacks". Being that she is a pretty nervous and these fits are typically triggered around times of change or high stress.Basically stating that she's "overloading" herself and overly worrying about her surroundings. That's as much as I understood, unfortunately, from him trying to explain it to me. I'm no vet so I didn't question it when he told me all this.He prescribed her oral Valium for her anxiety more than anything else which I've read can help with seizures. But I am still concerned about these fits.I also have her scheduled for a spay - Which, he says, can help with these fits as well but didn't really explain anything to me. She is in heat which, he says, with the elevated hormones could be affecting her.I've been googling all night and maybe found that "Elevations in estrogen are known to lower the seizure threshold. During a dog's heat cycle there is an early rise in estrogens which can lead to an increase in seizure activity. Spaying will eliminate the constant fluctuations in female hormones and frequently improves seizure control. Whether or not neutering a male dog will affect seizure control depends on the dog. Sexual arousal is a seizure trigger for some dogs and in these cases, neutering may help reduce seizures."I have no idea if this actually holds true or what research backs this claim but hell - I'm desperate for relief from constantly worrying about my baby. Within the last 24 hours, she's had at least four fits. All awake. She usually snaps out of it within a few minutes (feels like hours to me). And they all occurred while we were in bed or getting ready to sleep (but not all of her fits have occurred in bed).I hate to question the vet since he DID go to school for all this and is way more educate on animal health than I am. But should I maybe seek the opinion of a second vet? I'm so worried and scared. I've tried to make the environment less stressful. She's all I have.I know this isn't a "vet board", but I guess just more than anything - I needed to vent my feelings and concerns about my little girl. I love her so much. I'm also aware that this is Reddit but please try to be gentle with your replies. I'm over emotional right now anyway and I'd prefer not to cry at work. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2sneHzB
