[Help] Can a water additive for plaque/tartar build-up make my dog's urine too alkaline?

My vet said my dog's plaque was outrageous and recommended that I use Zymox Natural Water Additive. We add this tasteless additive (which is supposed to be made up of natural ezymes) to his water every day. It has helped his plaque and bad breath a lot since he won't let me brush his teeth yet (we are working on it). Within a few weeks, he started have high pH and got a UTI. When we ran out of Zymox, his pH went down and he seemed to get over the UTI. He was also given methionine for struvite crystals too which had formed. We didn't suspect the Zymox at the time. We got more Zymox and now he's back to having recurrent UTIs and NOTHING seems to be getting his pH down. This has been going on since October. He has had extensive blood work done and several exams that all came back 100% normal. We have spent so much time and money and still have no idea what could be causing it. Today, I was thinking about how he started Zymox around the time all this started and the only time we were able to get his urine within normal ranges was when we were out of Zymox. It seems odd that this could cause it, but we have tried everything. Does Zymox promote alkalinity? Could it change the pH of his urine? via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2qQPHo4
