Introduction1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?Had a family border collie, I participated in teaching her tricks and went to some classes with her. Currently have a husky and I'm training her on my own + I'll be going to a school with a dog "program"(words?? i dont even know) for 4 years. I am allowed to bring 2 dogs and I'll be living at the school. My current dog wasn't socialized properly as a young puppy (I got her at around 5 months) so she absolutely hates any kind of grooming but I've managed to get her to accept brushing, going into a shower and i've gotten her used to bathing and playing in bodies of water. Currently working on cutting her claws and body check ups and tick removal. Other than that, she knows a couple of commands, some which are useful and some of them just for fun. Recall, llw and contact are what I'm currently focusing on, I intend on tracking and doing nosework with her in the future as she loves to work with her nose.2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?I will be going through a breeder this time. Shelters aren't really a thing and rescues are kind of limited. I also want predictable temperament.3) Describe your ideal dog.Focused, energetic. Is fine with longer training sessions and doesn't need them split up and spread out all over the day. Motivated by toys or food. Wouldn't want a super large breed, nothing that is extremely prone to hip problems. No brachycephalic dogs. No dogs that need a lot of trimming/hair cutting. Some trimming, like around ears and stuff is alright. Shedding is 100% okay. Not extremely sensitive. I want a bit of an "attitude" Happy to work and easy to teach A velcro dog4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?I asked for recommendations on facebook earlier and got these as suggestions: ACD, Australian shepherd, German shepherd, kelpie. dutch shepherd, malinois, Rottweiler, Groenendael, Tervuren. I'm interested in all of the options, but I want to make sure they're actually fit for me. Especially the dutch and the malinois, as much as I'd like one I'm not sure if I'm experienced enough?5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?While I'd like to try most sports the ones that I'm interested in the most are IPO, obedience, nosework and tracking.Care Commitments6) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?I'll be taking classes at the local working dog club as well as training at home. Some days I'll train for an hour, some days I'll have shorter sessions. It really depends on what the dog demands. I want to compete with the dog, so I guess I'll train as much as I need.7) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?Weekdays: 3+ hours. Around an hour walk in the morning. 2 hours during the afternoon. I usually don't just "walk". I usually end up doing some kind of tracking, off-leash play in fenced areas, biking or just general training. Also swimming if the weather is good enough. Weekends : We sometimes spend around 5 hours outside during the weekends.8) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?Prefer to only brush. I can brush every day.Personal Preferences9) What size dog are you looking for?10-45 kg10) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?Shedding: My diet is 50% fur already, why not make it 100%? Barking is fine, even if it's excessive. Slobber is.. not ideal but I can handle it.11) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?Would prefer to be able to.Dog Personality and Behavior12) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?Velcro.13) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?Eager to please.14) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?Doesn't really matter. If it gets out of hand I can put the time into training a behaviour I would prefer.15) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?As long as it can tolerate my current dog or ignore it it's fine.16) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?Sensitive dogs. Easily stressed dogs.Lifestyle17) How often and how long will the dog be left alone?I bring my dog with me when possible. If I get the second dog during school the dog will be in an outside area when I'm not there. I will be able to spend time with the dog between classes and some classes involve the dog. I don't have a lot of interests outside of dogs, so I'll be spending most of my free time with my dogs.18) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog? It's my dog. I don't expect anyone to do anything for me.19) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they?A siberian husky mix. I have a cat at home but I'll only be home two times a week and I won't be taking the cat with me when I move out. I might not even take the siberian with me once I move out as my dad wants her. ¯_(ツ)_/¯20) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly?No.21) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease?I'll go out of my way to make sure I can have my dog.22) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds? No banned breeds.23) What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live?Summer is 20+ winter is around -5Additional Information and Questions24) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant.N/A25) Feel free to ask any questions below.N/A via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rXBOVk
