[Breeds]Dog for apartment dweller.


Introduction1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?Yes, this will be my first dog. No prior experience in owning one.2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder?Breeder, there aren't any rescues in my immediate vicinity.3) Describe your ideal dog.Cute, easy to handle and maintain, intelligent. I'll be living in a fairly small apartment, so preferably not prone to barking and biting. I'm looking for a companion dog.4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?Corgi, Schnauzer, and Yorkies. I read that they are apartment friendly dogs and are relatively easy to own and are great as companion dogs.5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?Most important would be potty training, obey commands such as not running around, biting, rolling in the mud and so on. Probably basic level of discipline and simple commands.Care Commitments6) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?I work fulltime for 8 hours on weekdays, but I'm willing to spend as much time as needed with the dog after work.7) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?I can do at least an hour a day after work. Probably brisk walk, or jogging, the area I live in is dog friendly and the dog park is just a couple minutes away.8) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly?Preferably once a month, and I'm willing to bring it to the dog salon.Personal Preferences9) What size dog are you looking for?Not too big, maybe small to medium sized.10) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle?I'd like to keep the barking and slobber to the bare minimum possible. I have no problems with shedding but hopefully not too much.11) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?I would definitely keep the leash on just to be safe, I'll have no problems keeping their leash on.Dog Personality and Behavior12) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space?Definitely snuggly but as I have a fulltime job, hopefully they won't have separation anxiety.13) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?Eager-to-please.14) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?I would prefer my dog to be friendly.15) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?Not too aggressive.16) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?Just no pissing or shitting all over the place.Lifestyle17) How often and how long will the dog be left alone?7-8 hours every weekdays.18) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog?I live alone.19) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets?
