[Discussion] Pit bulls

I've never owned a pit bull but have come into contact with quite a few and always felt like they were friendly and non threatening. It seems like the stigma of pit bulls has grown to epic proportions over the years and I'm trying to understand why. This weekend on my street an older man was walking by my neighbor's house with 2 pit bulls and my neighbor's small 5 pound dog was yapping as usual, the pit bulls began to pull and the older man was unable to restrain them, the result was that one of the pit bulls got the small dog in it's mouth and almost completely amputated a leg and punctured one of it's lungs, the dog had to be put down. Another story last summer in my city was a pit bull got out from a neighbor's yard into an adjacent yard and attacked and killed a woman sunbathing in her yard.I want to believe the aggression pit bulls exhibit is directly related to an owner's mistreatment of the animal and that seems to make sense to me as any dog can become aggressive if mistreated. So why do we almost exclusively hear about pit bulls attacking people or other dogs all of the time? I am beginning to think that regardless of how a pit bull is treated it has a strong predisposition to aggressive behavior and spontaneous attacks. Maybe some of you could shed some light on this topic or share some of your stories. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rI0nTc
