[discussion] tell me about what happened when you brought your rescue dog home

First things first this group has been such a wealth of information and I thank you all.I could potentially (fingers crossed) be bringing home a 1 year old shepherd mix soon. I was a rescue failure (dog ended up being human and animal aggressive with severe separation anxiety and was not a good fit at all) and ever since then my family has been telling me to just "get a puppy" I don't think that is the right choice for me at all. Please tell me a about your experiences with bringing home a rescue dog - what happened when you left them and went to work the first time? What would you have done differently?
