[Help] I'm looking at two dogs, one active and energetic, and another a lap dog, i have a question about them.

So I was looking at dogs and I'm interested in two right now, a labrador/ retriever/austrialian shepard that is okay with cats (we have two), and a lap dog shih-tzu (only because i have two very no-stress hungry parents who would enjoy him). I would be fine with a lap-dog but I'm concerned he won't be wanting to be very active except for a few walks a day. So whats the real situation with lap dogs and which one should I get? Below are facts of my house5 above 13 year old kids (ones moving out at the end of summer, and another is moving out after that, and another after that.) All kids are very mature and understand that animals are just as important as humans. We have 2 cats, one of which is outside most of the time and the other one thinks its a human and is awkward and wierd. Our house is huge and so is our yard, but no fence.
