[Help] Is it okay to constantly shave/trim a long haired dog's fur?

My dream dog is a Collie, I absolutely love these guys. My cousin has one, and I've interacted with other Collies while I volunteered at a shelter. I want to take my future dog with me to work (large farm/equestrian centre on the countryside, lots of my coworkers bring their dogs along) but it's very hot where I live, especially where that farm is located, so I'm worried it'll be too much for a Collie. Smooth Collies are very rare here, I doubt I'll find any. Basically all I'd plan to do is cut/shave the fur just short enough so the dog won't suffer, not make it bald. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rzuvSN
