[Help]First dog and need advice integrating with spoiled cats

My wife and I have been thinking about getting a dog on and off for years (dual income no kids, some very spoiled cats, big ass fenced in yard in a rural area). We have applied with rescues in the past but nothing ever worked out. On a lark at my wife's suggestion I applied with a local foster agency last weekend thinking nothing would happen. Boy was I wrong! Fast forward to today and we have a healthy (supposedly husky/shepherd) 3 month old pup en route from Alabama. All paperwork/fees with rescue and local town authorities are in order. As for equipment I have got some basic toys, a collar & leash, a slip leash, puppy chow, pet bowls, a few toys, a nice warm blanky, puppy pads, and a 36 inch crate. Town has a nearby dog park I plan on visiting when the pup is ready and I see tons of people in my neighborhood out walking dogs. Also picked up a copy of "Training the best dog ever" by Sylvia-Stasiewicz and will start reading tonight. I think I have the basics covered (bathrooms breaks every hour or less during day, baggies for poop, water available whenever, food once a day, treats for positive reinforcement, crate when I cant supervise at first, no alone time more than 1 hour per month of age). Any additional advice for a new dog owner in my situation? Also is there anything I can do to help my very well loved and spoiled cats to get used to a puppy? I am 100 % committed to making a happy healthy home for our cats and new pup!Edit: PS: Vet checkup is also scheduled I am told all medical care is up to date for this age dog. via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2rOwNyh
