I used the questionnaire and then it told me I had to cut and paste as I wrote too much, so I apologize for any formatting issues. Introduction1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs?Yes, our first dog2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a reputable breeder? We would prefer a mix breed rescue because I've always heard they were healthier than pure bred dogs. However, if I am wrong, please tell me!3) Describe your ideal dog.Super friendly to everyone (me, husband, cats, strangers, kids, other dogs). Between 10-35lbs, sturdy (not delicate), likes to be handled a lot and does NOT yap and bark at every stranger we pass by on walks.4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why?We don't have our hearts set on any particular breed. I'm here for ideas on small/medium sized breeds or breed mixes that would best fit our requirements/preferences.5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do?Basic training: sit, stay, lay down, recall, stop barking when we ask it to and most importantly, we would want to train it to NOT jump all over people.Care Commitments6) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day?1 hr per day when we are working, much more on weekends and vacation days.7) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park?We can personally only exercise or dog by going on walks or taking it to the dog park for a maximum of 1 hr per day in the afternoon/evening after work. However, since we don't want to leave the dog alone for 8hrs a day we are planning on either getting a dog walker or possibly take it to doggy daycare.8) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly? We are willing to brush our dog once a week and definitely are willing to take it to a groomer once a month.Personal Preferences9) What size dog are you looking for?No smaller than 10lbs and no bigger than 35lbs10) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle? We don't care about how much the dog sheds. Would like to avoid slobber as much as possible. Barking to say hello or to warn us that someone is at the door is just fine. However, we don't want a dog that excessively barks at everything at everyone it sees (from our apartment or on walks).11) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area?We will never let our dog off leash in an unfenced area, so not important at all.Dog Personality and Behavior12) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space? We want a friendly dog that likes to snuggle but not a Velcro dog as we sometimes work at home and the dog would need to be able to play on its own.13) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please?Eager to please14) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors?Bark to warn us of their presence.15) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs?No not at all. We have cats and the dog needs to be able to live peacefully with the cats.We may need to take it to doggy daycare and therefore want a dog that is friendly to other dogs.16) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid?Besides excessive barking/whining, we'd also like to avoid biting, pulling, nipping.Lifestyle17) How often and how long will the dog be left alone? This will depend on the dog. If possible, we'd only have a dog walker come in once a day for an hour, which would mean the dog would be left alone with the cats for 7hrs during the weekdays. Hardly ever alone during weekends. If this is not possible, we are willing to send the dog to doggy daycare.18) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog?My husband is willing to care for the dog as much as I am. He also wants what I want and what I put in the previous questions.19) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they?1 male and 1 female cat. Both have never been around dogs (outside of the ones they see at the vet's office) but they were around lots of other cats in their foster home before we adopted them. They are both very friendly, like to rest a lot but at certain times of the day are super active and like to play.20) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly?Only on walks or at the local park.21) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease?Rent. No bully breeds and no bigger than 35lbs.22) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds?Los Angeles.23) What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live?Seems like it's always 80 degrees here though it can get cold (around 30s or 40s) during winter nights.Additional Information and Questions24) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant.N/A25) Feel free to ask any questions below. Is there a small to medium sized breed that tends to be very confident and friendly with everyone? via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2s6PLAg
