[Discussion] Choosing the right dog (follow up to breed questionnaire)

First off, this is a looong post and I apologize for any formatting issues. There is a TL;DR on the bottom. So a month or so back I did the breed questionnaire and got some very helpful advice (thank you!) and now I'm hoping for some follow up help. My husband and I have decided to find a 10-20lb mixed breed dog that has been tagged as cat friendly by their rescue group. He/She will join our 2 adult human and 2 adult cat (1 female/1 male) apartment household, but I am still unsure about a few things: *item 1: Can we trust the information I find on pet finder? I've seen a few terrier mixes and dachshund mixes (mixed with low prey drive breeds) that the rescues say are cat friendly but I thought those breeds liked to hunt small animals? Would they not think of my cats as small animals to hunt and kill? *item 2: Is it better for us to get a male dog or a female dog with my two cats? We're concerned about our male cat who does not get a long with most male cats (competes with them for the ladies!) and who often tries to "mate" with our docile, spayed female cat. *item 3: What age range should we be considering if we want a young dog? We're planning on being home for the first 2-21/2 months we have the dog, but then will be returning to work (we are teachers) and will have to hire a dog walker or send him or her to daycare when the academic year starts again.TL;DR: We have two adult cats (female/male) what sex dog would be best for us? Can I trust the information rescues put on pet finder when they say their dog is "cat friendly"? What is the youngest dog we can get if we are planning to either use a dog walker or daycare when we're working? via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2qHP3t5
