[Help] First Time Multiple Dog Owner, Adopted Two At Once (Gulp!) Could Use Some Guidance.

A little history. My husband and I had a bad experience with dog adoption 2yrs ago. We adopted a shelter dog, and the dog ended up having severe aggression and behavioral issues. After several months and a handful of bad events, we were told by multiple trainers that there was a good likelihood the dog would badly hurt someone, maybe one of us, even with training and medication. So we opted to give her back. It was unbelievably stressful, heartbreaking and expensive. So we've been a bit gun-shy about adopting again.Fast forward to this weekend, we found two dogs that seemed perfect, after a year of looking, one from a humane society, one from a rescue, and got both. We adopted Little Dog, a miniature schnauzer-terrier mix, from the humane society about 72hrs before we got Big Dog, some sort of Cattle Dog/shepherd mix, from a foster home working with the rescue. Both were strays as far as anyone could tell. Little Dog has heartworms and demodex, Big Dog was malnourished. Prior to the arrival of Big Dog, Little Dog was terrified of everything and mostly liked to sit in my lap and shake, now he seems a lot more sure of himself and braver with everything, but only when Big Dog is around. Prior to meeting Little Dog, Big Dog was described as the sweetest dog the foster home had ever had, however with us she is a sass machine, and frequently knocks over Little Dog and clamps down on the back of his neck or his leg and throws him around, and tries to steal his toys, food and bed.I have no idea how to interpret this behavior. I don't know if it's play or conflict. I have noticed a lot of guarding behavior around food and chew toys by Big Dog, so they are fed in separate rooms, and Big Dog can only have chew toys on the balcony, where Little Dog refuses to set foot (we think our apartment being on the 3rd floor flips him out). Big Dog also seems less and less interested my husband and I, opting to spend more time alone on the balcony, and is getting rougher with Little Dog. Again I don't know how to interpret that.I'm also very wary of any behavior I don't understand due to my last experience with an unpredictable dog. I'm anxious to have Big Dog around anyone, and sometimes get nervous around her. I guess if anyone could give me some guidance as to what to expect from dogs as they settle into a home and adjust to a multi-dog environment, or have any suggestions beyond basic obedience classes (they are both enrolled, but they don't start for another 10 days) that might be helpful, or just any advice for suddenly living with 2 additional beings, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! via /r/dogs http://ift.tt/2qKkC1m
